NORFOLK, Va. â The playground on Thurgood Street in Norfolk remains a vivid reminder of a life cut short by a senseless shooting.
Kristopher Edmondsâ family said the playground behind his home is where he was shot and killed early Tuesday morning. Kristopher was just 15 years old.
âNo mother should have to outlive her child,â said Latisha Riddick, a friend to the Edmonds family. âThatâs one of the worst pain in the world.â
Kristopherâs grandmother, Wanda Edmonds, said he was a good kid, athletic, smart and loved by everyone.

They also had a very clear message. We’re losing kids left and right every day and we can’t keep losing kids, Riddick said. It has to change.
Carolyn White grew up in the Diggs Town community. She says her son is now serving 56 years in prison for killing someone. I didn’t win anything. His family didn’t win anything, she told the crowd.
The nurse turned her attention to the teenagers and pleaded with them to put down their guns so they don t end up like her son.
