Wantage NJ: Land Use Board approval for Charles Meissner goes to judge

Meissner, who didn t testify during his hearing, bought the 7.4-acre tract in the township s highway commercial zone on Route 565 for $120,000 in 2014.  He later was accused by neighbor Dave Franek of filling in the wetlands prior to applying for a variance and site plan in 2019. However, the state DEP visited the site four times and found no such violations, said Meissner s attorney, Thomas Hooker. Franek, who filed the 2019 lawsuit that overturned Meissner s original approval, planned to corroborate his accusation with testimony from the wetlands expert who consulted on the tax break as well as from a professional planner, but had to postpone doing so when his attorney contracted COVID-19 just prior to the board s April meeting.

Therapy dog makes debut in new Sandyston-Walpack reading program

New Jersey Herald SANDYSTON Tyler listens to students as they practice reading aloud at Sandyston-Walpack School. He doesn t offer any feedback on the books or the reading. He just sits quietly and wags his tail as the children and teachers stop by to pet him. The four-legged, 160-pound Great Pyrenees is part of the inaugural Dog Tales program at the school. All K-6 students read to the therapy dog each Friday during sessions that last about 25 to 30 minutes. Breaks from reading involve the occasional belly scratch or walk around the hallway as a mental boost for both the students and the pup.

Sussex County NJ: Judge orders man to remain jailed on rape charges

The alleged victim has her own history with alcohol abuse, and Schweizer once obtained a restraining order against her several years ago, Palazzo said. Most telling in the restraining order is that the alleged victim indicated if he slept in the living room, she would call the police and falsely accuse him of rape, Palazzo said. So she already has the basis to make a false accusation. Palazzo said the woman declined to give police a written statement at the scene of the alleged rape on April 21. When she was brought to the local hospital, she was so intoxicated she declined medical treatment and threw bodily fluids at the staff, he said.
