The garden on the rooftop of the Tony and Libba Rane Culinary Science Center does more than provide food and adornments for guests of its signature restaurant, 1856 – Culinary Residence, The Laurel Hotel & Spa and Ariccia Cucina Italiana.

While many on the Auburn University campus will slow down over the holiday break, the Harrison College of Pharmacy’s Rusty Arnold is gearing up for a trip to Israel to collaborate with peers in science and technology. Selected for the competitive Faculty Fellowship Program sponsored by the Jewish National Fund, USA, Arnold will travel to Israel from Dec. 26-Jan. 8.

Auburn University is one of three universities sharing a $28 million grant award from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture, or NIFA, to establish an Institute for Rural Partnership to research the causes and conditions of challenges facing rural areas.

Auburn University signed a Memorandum of Understanding, or MOU, with Lurleen B. Wallace Community College, or LBWCC, on Thursday, Dec. 15. The MOU formalized a partnership to expand Auburn’s Path to the Plains program, extending the institution’s pathway program to students across LBWCC’s four sites.

More than 60 participants from academia, government, industry and the local community convened on the Auburn University campus recently for the inaugural meeting and symposium of the Institute for Strengthening Pathways and Research Knowledge in STEM, or SPARK STEM Institute. The institute, which consists of two separate, but cooperating centers, falls under Auburn’s Office for Special Projects and Initiatives.
