The United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) on Tuesday strongly condemned attacks by a group of armed youths on villages in the disputed Abyei region between Sudan and South Sudan which resulted in an estimated 27 people killed and 14 injured. The organization denied reports published in the media claiming UNISFA peacekeepers were killed or wounded during the incident. Attacks by rival factions in a region disputed by Sudan and South Sudan left dozens killed on Sunday.

The U.S. Embassy in Juba in a Tuesday statement condemned the recent killing of two humanitarian aid workers in South Sudan.

Two youth from Twic county in South Sudan’s Warrap state, who were previously trapped in Abyei town, have been successfully reunited with their families.

The Norwegian Ambassador to South Sudan Linken Berryman travelled to Tonj South County in Warrap State last Thursday, where she was received by Warrap State Governor Manhiem Bol Malek.

Calm has returned to the Abyei Administrative Area following a deadly attack in Athony village last week, which resulted in the loss of five lives. However, senior officials in Abyei and Warrap have traded accusations of mobilizations of armed youth on either side.
