A Phillipsburg-area politician who chairs N.J.’s GOP is running for governor

Doug Steinhardt, chairman of New Jersey’s Republican Party and the former mayor of Lopatcong Township, is officially running for governor.
Steinhardt filed paperwork Wednesday night to establish a campaign committee to seek the Republican nomination to challenge Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy in the 2021 election.
The 52-year-old Warren County native who has been mulling a bid for months will face former state Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli and businessman Hirsch Singh in the June Republican primary.
The news comes a day after state Assembly Minority Leader Jon Bramnick, R-Union, announced he would not enter the race for the party’s nod.
