The North Carolina House and Senate each took up bills Tuesday afternoon for new electoral maps

Urban Democratic voters in Forsyth and Guilford counties face the likelihood of their voices being diluted again with Republican-drawn congressional redistricting maps that were unveiled last week.

“The gerrymandered districts twist and curl like apple skins falling from my grandma’s vegetable peeler,” state Sen. Natasha Marcus said.

Newly proposed election maps are expected to tilt North Carolinas congressional delegation to the right and maintain GOP majorities in state legislative chambers. Republican lawmakers, who drew the maps in secret, went over them in public for the first time Thursday.
