Over 40 Warren County residents died from COVID-related causes in December. After starting the month with only one COVID-related death, there were 25 more reported by the Pennsylvania Department of Health and 41 according to the Warren County coroner. The surge that brought more than 1,100 new cases to the county in a month seems to have swung back down and the county ended 2020 on a positive note in terms of new cases. The daily total of 14 was the lowest in two weeks. There were 12 new cases on Dec. 18. Between those dates, the county set its record for a single day with 80 on Dec. 21.

churst@post-journal.com Hospitalizations continue to increase as Chautauqua County announced 116 new cases of the coronavirus on Thursday. As of Wednesday, the county has 534 active cases of COVID-19 and 1,888 remain under quarantine orders from the Department of Health. Thursday’s numbers put the county at 3,681 confirmed cases of the virus since March. Hospitalizations, meanwhile, increased by three to 48. Thirty-two new cases were reported in Dunkirk and 30 new cases were reported in Jamestown. Fredonia also has 11 new cases. Among the over 500 active cases, Jamestown has 145, Dunkirk has 105 and Fredonia has 45. Smaller villages like Lakewood and Westfield also have 19 and 15 active cases, respectively.

editorial@timesobserver.com COVID-19 related deaths have climbed sharply since Christmas Eve. “At this time I have had 42 reported COVID-19-related deaths,” Warren County Coroner Melissa Zydonik said Wednesday. “From the 24th to yesterday I have had 14 reported.” Wednesday’s data from the Department of Health increased the death total by one to 26. That figure is about a week behind the numbers provided by Zydonik. There were also 35 new COVID-19 cases in Warren County announced on Wednesday. The department reported 1,460 total cases for the county, an increase of 35, with 1,211 of those being confirmed and 249 probable. There were 22 COVID patients at Warren General Hospital, two of them using ventilators, and five in intensive care, according to the department.

Warren County adds 81 new cases of COVID-19 | News, Sports, Jobs

Since Thursday, Warren County has had 81 new cases of COVID-19 to its running total. The Pennsylvania Department of Health reported 28 new cases on Friday, 32 on Saturday, and 21 on Sunday. Those new cases brought the county’s total cases as of Sunday to 1,347. The three-day total barely surpassed the single-day high of 78 from Dec. 20. State-wide reporting was also down over the three-day period. There were only about 17,000 new cases in the state in that time. The 4,728 new cases reported on Sunday was the lowest number since Nov. 30. The county total includes 1,139 confirmed cases and 208 probables. Since Dec. 1, there have been 1,044 new cases in the county.
