president here, that s something that could change the game here. i don t want to get people too overly optimistic. that s how this starts to shift, potentially. how do republicans there on the hill explain the fact that the president had control of both houses of congress for two years and couldn t get a wall? now the president seems to think with democrats in control of the lower chamber, all of a sudden he can build his wall? reporter: they tried very hard not to address that fact, i can tell you that. they make the argument this has been an escalating crisis. republicans say while the president has been talking about the wall for a long time the situation at the border has gotten worse. it s a priority now, in a way, they argue, that it wasn t a priority earlier in the year. as you point out it ignores the political reality here that as each passing day went by in the trump presidency, they lost
revealed in a filing yesterday by manafort s own attorneys. he has been convicted of multiple fraud accounts as a result of the mueller probe. he s pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges. he agreed to cooperate with the investigation, the arrangement collapsing when mueller accused manafort of continuing to lie to investigators. what was yesterday s filing about? how was the polling data, how was that information revealed? so this was a response by manafort s lawyers to the accusation from mueller s team that manafort wasn t cooperating and was lying. oh, no, he wasn t lying they say in their filing. you know, he s refreshed his memory. he s corrected a lot of things. they ve thrown a lot of questions at him without giving him the background for what they were asking about. they re viewing this in the harshest light. that was their response. in filing this with the judge, they said, here, look at all the things he did say. some of it was redacted by drawing black lines over it.
figure out how to reunite these kids. it really shows incompetence by this white house and by this administration. the fact there s no plan for reunification means there was no plan for the implementation of the zero tolerance policy, which i think is even more shocking since the administration was in full force behind that. zwl it also shows, does it not, that it really wasn t a priority. this is a policy instituted intentionally by this administrati administration. presumably if you cared, you would have had some process in place. they talk about the power of deterrence and how people have to know they re going to face consequences if they enter the country illegally. that was the whole point of having the zero tolerance policy in effect and the whole point of telling people f y, if you brin your children, you could get separated, but you would have thought if that were the objective, they would have had a plan in place to say, okay, well, if you re willing to go home, if you r
the circumstances are different. we have a different leader but in the agreement. there s nothing different. no doubt about it. it s going to take a very long time. i go back my first summits were in europe in the 1980s when i was covering reagan gorbachev. it took two years to get to that summit and two years past that before we got to a treaty on nuclear weapons and missiles with the soviet union. we have a long way to go, a long path to go before we get something concrete that we can really say changes to the equation. let s listen to what president trump said about other past administrations dealing with north korean regimes and dictators. he said no other president could have done this. i think he trusts me and i trust him. that was the wrong sound byte. do we have the president talking about other leaders? i can read it for you. he said it wasn t a priority. they could ve done. i don t think they could ve done
it. i think we have it. let s listen. the other groups may be it wasn t a priority. i don t think they could have done if it was a priority, frankly. it would have been easier. for me, it would have been much easier and i m not just blaming president obama. this goes back for 25 years. he clearly thinks other administrations could have done this but didn t do it. is he right or is the situation markedly different now because kim jong-un has developed this nuclear capability and therefore that gives him a seat at the pe verbable table? remember, obama when he first met when he last met with trump in the white house on the very eve othe inauguration, your biggest challenge is north korea and sure enough it is and now he s found a way to take care of it. maybe take care of it, but sure the others could have gotten to that point. madam albright went to pyongyang, went with kim and she
