HS 1st year examinations postponed due to COVID pandemic
Due to the surging COVID-19 cases across the State, the ensuing higher secondary (HS) 1st year examinations under the Assam Higher Secondary Educational Council (AHSEC) have been postponed.

GUWAHATI: Due to the surging COVID-19 cases across the State, the ensuing higher secondary (HS) 1st year examinations under the Assam Higher Secondary Educational Council (AHSEC) have been postponed.
The exams were scheduled to be held from May 4. This was informed to the media by AHSEC Chairman Dr Dayananda Borgohain.
He underlined that though the 1st year examinations have been postponed, no decision has been taken to postpone the HS final year examinations which will be held from May 11.

GUWAHATI: A powerful earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale rattled Assam and other northeastern states at 7.51 a.m. on Wednesday. The epicentre of the tremor is at Hugrajuli in Sonitpur district. It lies in the seismically very active Kopili Fault closer to the Himalayan Frontal thrust falling in the highest seismic hazard zone V associated with collisional tectonic where Indian plate subducts beneath the Eurasian Plate.
Gauhati High Court orders fund for transgenders shelters
Responding to a PIL (24/2021), the Gauhati High Court has directed the Social Welfare Department to arrange finances for the operation of three shelter homes established for the transgenders.

GUWAHATI: Responding to a PIL (24/2021), the Gauhati High Court has directed the Social Welfare Department to arrange finances for the operation of three shelter homes established for the transgenders.
The PIL was lodged by the All Assam
Transgender Association stating that three shelter homes in – Kamrup Metro, Dhubri, and Bongaigaon are starving of funds.
The Advocate for the petitioner Swati B. Baruah stated that each shelter home has a monthly expense of around Rs 15 lakh.
Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal visited Dhekiajuli and its adjacent areas near the epicentre of the massive earthquake that jolted Assam in the morning on Wednesday.
