Waterbury Fire Department, Vermont State Police respond to Duxbury blaze
Residents of Pine Street in Duxbury responded to a large blaze in the woods on the north side of the road by calling the Waterbury Fire Department around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 25. The blaze led to the fire department calling Vermont State Police to manage a truculent logger whose identity police have not released.
Pine Street didn’t know that the fire was the result of logging activities. Waterbury Fire Department chief Gary Dillon responded to the scene along with about a dozen volunteers from the fire department and determined that the blaze was part of a logging operation organized by the owners of the Grunberg Haus.

A 31-year-old New York man was killed after his vehicle struck a parked tractor-trailer in Connecticut.
Christopher Ortiz, of Watertown, in Jefferson County, was found dead around 12:06 a.m., Wednesday, April 21, when Waterbury police responded to a motor vehicle accident in the area of South Main Street at Verzier Street, in Waterbury, said Sgt. Davis.
When officers arrived on the scene, they found a white 2005 Nissan Altima had traveled from the northbound lane of traffic into the southbound lane and struck a parked unoccupied tractor-trailer, Davis said.
The Nissan sustained heavy damage, which led to Waterbury Fire Department extricating Ortiz from the vehicle.
