MASTERMINDS OF MAHARA PRISON RIOT IDENTIFIED: DIG AJITH ROHANA

Share: COLOMBO (News 1st): The Criminal Investigation Department, which is conducting an in-depth investigation into the Mahara Prison Riot that broke out on the 29th of November, has so far recorded 334 statements from 197 inmates, 107 prison officers, nine doctors, and 17 male nurses, Sri Lanka Police said on Wednesday (Dec. 16). “The CID has identified those who instigated the riot inside the prison complex and further investigations of the inmates are continuing,” Police Spokesperson, DIG Ajith Rohana said. In total, 11 inmates died in the Mahara Prison Riot and the identities of all victims were ascertained. According to DIG Ajith Rohana, the autopsies of four bodies have concluded as of now, and the post-mortem reports will be submitted to the court by the panel that conducted the post mortems.

Share: COLOMBO (News 1st): The Wattala Magistrate’s Court on Thursday (Dec. 16) rejected the request to bury four inmates killed in Mahara Prison Riot that broke out on 29th November. Thereby, the Director-General of Health Services was ordered by the Wattala Magistrate’s Court to cremate the bodies on Wednesday (16) and Thursday (17).  The autopsies on four bodies have concluded and the post-mortem examinations were conducted by a Panel of Experts appointed by the court. The Panel of Experts today (Dec. 16) informed the Wattala Magistrates Court that according to the postmortem report, four inmates who were killed in the Mahara Prison Riot died of gunshot injuries.

Assessor  Court to rule on cremation of remains after expert panel report submitted  By Asiri Fernando The Wattala Magistrates Court yesterday ordered a five-member expert panel to carry out the post-mortem investigations on 11 deceased inmates of Mahara Prison and submit a confidential report to the Court.  According to State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne, the Magistrate Court has directed the committee to re-examine the remains of four inmates who were killed during the Mahara Prison unrest that had been subjected to a post-mortem already.
