Fisherman who died after falling overboard in Willamette River identified

Oscar De Wayne Mayes, a 56-year-old Portland resident, reportedly fell overboard Saturday around 6:20 p.m. after losing his balance in the Swan Island lagoon, an inlet of the Willamette River in North Portland, according to the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office. A dog on board also fell into the water
Marine deputies and Portland Fire & Rescue responded with a rescue boat and land units to search for Mayes. He was found around 6:45 p.m and declared dead on the scene.
