Apple has announced that iOS app developers will be allowed to let people in the European Union download their apps for the iPhone and iPad from websites. The new system will go live this spring.
Apple informed developers that they will be able to sell their apps on websites in the EU, not just through Apple's App Store or third-party app marketplaces. It's the first time Apple has ever allowed a form of sideloading on iOS, although there are still restrictions in place.
