The sentencing of former Free State premier Ace Magashuleâs driver, Ricardo Mettler, continues this morning at the Free State High Court.
However, before his sentencing for the theft of an R8 million Pierneef painting, a private social worker company - Engo - will table a report before the judge that looked into his family welfare.
It is set to help the judge determine whether Mettler should be sentenced while in custody or not. This follows a plea by his legal representative - Advocate Jacques Potgieter - that his client is the sole provider for his family.
The Free State High Court has found Ace Magashule's former driver guilty on four charges related to the theft of the valuable painting from the former premier's office.
Judge Soma Naidoo postponed the matter to Tuesday 15 December pending a preliminary report which is set to looking into the welfare of his family. A social worker company "Engo" is expec.

The former Free State premier Ace Magashule s driver has just been found guilty in the Free State High Court on four charges pertaining to the theft of a Pierneef painting, worth R8 million, that belonged to the state.
Judge Soma Naidoo says she is satisfied that state prosecutor, Antoinette Ferreira, has proven the state s case against Ricardo Mettler beyond reasonable doubt. Soma found Mettler guilty on four charges of theft, fraud, money laundering and perjury, pertaining to an affidavit he made about obtaining the multi-million rand piece of art.
Soma found Mettler not-guilty on count five - contravening Section 32(13) of the National Heritage Resources Act. The sentencing will follow after a short adjournment.
