Colonial Pipeline Leaks Near Huntersville, North Carolina

Grey VilletGetty Images It’s getting pretty hard to keep up with all the pipelines leaking all over the country. This is a part of modern life with which the residents of Huntersville, a small town outside Charlotte, North Carolina, have become familiar. Last August, just outside the Oehler Nature Preserve, a couple of local kids found gasoline bubbling out of the ground. From North Carolina Policy Watch: The Colonial Pipeline spill on Aug. 14 released nearly five times more gasoline than previously estimated — at least 272,580 gallons, a number that could rise as the clean up in Huntersville continues. On the date of the spill, Colonial was required to immediately notify state and federal authorities with an estimated amount of gasoline spill — 63,000 gallons.
