Mpumalanga ANC secretary Muzi Chirwa has revealed that he was targeted by assassins in the volatile Mkhondo region when he was the party’s Gert Sibande regional secretary and district mayor.

A fifth suspect, arrested for the assassination of ANC councillor, Sibonelo Mthembu (36), in Mkhondo (Piet Retief) is expected to appear in the local court on Wednesday.

Embattled former Mkhondo mayor Vusi Motha did not, as expected, appear in the Mkhondo magistrate’s court in Mpumalanga to apply for bail on Tuesday morning.
