BAMP urged for more restrictions in Barbados to mitigate COVID-19 spread
The Barbados Association of Medical Practitioners preferred to imposed more restrictions after supporting the government decision of increasing the curfew timings. By increasing the restrictions in the country according to the BAMP, the country would be efficiently mitigating the effect of the COVID-19 virus. The president of the association, Dr Lynda Williams, stated that the association had requested for the curfew in the early hours as well as the more restrictions that would be posed on weekends and would be effective in decreasing the spread of COVID-19.

Viral test backlog declared over – Bostic

The backlog of COVID-19 test results should have been cleared by Wednesday, according to Minister of Health and Wellness Lieutenant Colonel Jeffrey Bostic.
He gave an assurance that operations at the Best-Dos Santos Public Health Laboratory had returned to normal following the acquisition of a chemical reagent to speed up the process.
Lt Col Bostic said it was imperative that test results be brought up to date to make an accurate assessment of positivity rates and the pervasiveness of COVID-19 in Barbados.
He revealed that as of Sunday, 534 tests were performed which yielded 63 positive cases.

In a manner befitting the tumult, upheaval and pain that was 2020, Old Year’s Night was effectively cancelled after a spike in COVID-19 infections triggered new curfew restrictions and public health officials began rigorous testing and contact tracing to get to the root of the outbreak.
As thousands were making their final preparations for the festive weekend, details were emerging about 10 new cases, five of which were of nationals who were not linked to travellers.
“In other words, the five cases suggest that there is some local transmission,” declared Minister of Health and Wellness Lieutenant Colonel Jeffrey Bostic.
Chief Medical Officer Dr Kenneth George said that of the five infected people between the ages of 18 and 43, three displayed minor symptoms of COVID-19.

Government has vowed to leave no stone unturned in the fight to contain the spread of the COVID-19 virus, even as scores of Barbadians prepare to ring in the New Year.
In fact, Attorney General Dale Marshall has announced a slew of new protocols that will take effect from Wednesday, December 30, 2020 until January 6, 2021, that place more stringent limits on all gatherings, including parties, pleasure cruises and even family outings at the beach.
The new “limited” COVID-19 Directive follows weeks of “reckless” behaviour involving locals and tourists, which only intensified over the recent Christmas and Boxing Day weekend.
According to the new directive, there will be no gatherings exceeding 150, except with the express permission of the COVID-19 Monitoring Unit. Throughout the one-week period, pleasure cruises will now have to seek fresh permission from the unit, which will determine how many persons will be allowed on the vessels for each even
