Vergelegen staff preparing and packing vegetables in the Stables restaurant kitchen.
About six months after the establishment of a large community vegetable garden on its sprawling grounds, Somerset Westâs historical Vergelegen Wine Estate has delivered its first consignment of fresh produce to a local hospital.
The donation was delivered to Helderberg Hospital, whose staff have served the community steadfastly throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, by staff of Vergelegen last Friday (8 January). The state hospital was the very first beneficiary of the estateâs bountiful produce.
Vergelegen gardeners, together with Managing Director Wayne Coetzer and Commercial and Risk Manager Leslie Naidoo, handed over the bakkie load of vegetables â washed and neatly packed in stacks of brown paper bags â to Helderberg Hospital CEO Sharon Leo and Quality Manager Anita Theron.
