Lessons learned from the Thomas Fire have been incorporated into Ventura s emergency operation plan adopted earlier this week.
The Ventura City Council approved the 270-page plan on Monday that will prepare residents for the next fire or other emergencies like plane crashes and tsunamis. The city s emergency operation plan was last adopted in October 2013.
The latest update discusses improvements to VC Alert, the countywide, opt-in system that notifies residents of an emergency.
Dan Wall, emergency manager for Ventura, said VC Alert has been improved in the aftermath of the 2017 Thomas Fire with county technology over which the city has administrative control.

As the COVID-19 pandemic subsides and restrictions ease, some City Halls in Ventura County have reopened to the public, with others to follow. The abating of the threat from COVID along with county and state relaxing restrictions has allowed us to reexamine our service delivery methods, Tim Giles, Thousand Oaks human resources director/risk administrator, said in a statement.
Thousand Oaks recently reopened its customer service counters at City Hall for public in-person services. The city continues to offer virtual services.
It plans to soon allow the public to again attend City Council meetings in person. As we gradually increase our in-person services, the city is keeping everyone safe, Giles said.
Mercy Hospital Lincoln nurses conducted a COVID-19 vaccination clinic at Toyota Missouri on April 16 with the goal of offering vaccinations to employees and variable workforce.
âToyota Missouri is committed to providing a safe work environment. Working together with Mercy Hospital Lincoln, the team has prepared for this day,â said Wes Woods, plant president. âThe onsite COVID vaccination clinic is another step to help protect the health of our employees and contribute to herd immunity in the community.â
By offering the vaccine onsite, Toyota Missouri hopes to make it an easy and convenient process for its employees while also reducing demand at community vaccination sites. Though the vaccine is not mandatory, Toyota Missouri employees are encouraged to consider receiving the vaccine to help protect themselves, their family and those around them.
