The Barnstable Patriot Located on Osterville/West Barnstable Road in Marstons Mills is a beautiful stretch of sprawling farmland covering 14 acres. It is home to CJ’s Ranch, where a variety of services are available for horses, as well as horse owners and riders. After a few minutes into conversation with owner Cathy Hill, it was apparent that there is something special about her world of horses. It began 20 years ago, when after several years in the kitchen and bath business, an unexpected opportunity came along. Cathy had grown up in a family where horses were a part of her daily life; her tremendous love and appreciation for them never waned. So when the Sheriff’s Youth Ranch became available, friends told her it was time to make a change. “It seemed ridiculous. Going out and doing my own thing with horses was fine, but running my own facility to this degree had not been my dream,” she said. Perhaps it was not Cathy’s dream, but it was meant to be.
