TODAY in COURT: Accused West Del Norte Shooter Pleads Not Guilty; Sex Trafficking Suspect Hopes for Deal; Waterfront Murder Trial Delayed Again A Eureka man suspected of a recent shooting on West Del Norte Street pleaded not guilty today to attempted murder and a variety of drug and weapons charges. Deputy Public Defender Casey Russo entered the pleas on behalf of Braylan Jay Lanier, suspected of attempting to kill a 37-year-old man who was shot several times and left lying in the street the night of Jan. 14. Judge Timothy Canning ordered Lanier, 26, to be held without bail because he was out of jail on supervised release when he allegedly shot the other man. Bail on the attempted murder charge was set at $750,000.

Sheriff s Office to Request Charges Against Eureka Man in Connection With November Homicide on the Samoa Peninsula

The suspect of a homicide occurring last month in Samoa has been arrested. Hutson. On December 10, 2020, at about 1:30 p.m., an officer with the Eureka Police Department on patrol near the 100 block of West Del Norte Street in Eureka saw a man matching the description of a person of interest in the homicide of 34-year-old Perry Bailey on November 15 in Samoa. The man, identified as 26-year-old Travontae Javoni Hutson of Eureka, was also known to have out of county warrants for his arrest. When the EPD officer attempted to contact Hutson, Hutson fled on foot into a residence on the 200 block of West Hawthorne Street. Additional officers responded and took Hutson into custody without further incident. During the booking process at the Humboldt County Correctional Facility, Hutson was found to have a small quantity of methamphetamine on his person.
