A 24-year-old man was arrested Wednesday after leading law enforcement on a car chase before barricading himself in a home while armed with a gun.
The chain of events began around 12:38 p.m. when deputies with the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office noticed a car with unregistered plates weaving through traffic about 80 mph in the 5500 block of West Hampton Avenue on Milwaukee’s north side, according to a sheriff’s office news release.
Before initiating a traffic stop, deputies pulled alongside the car at a traffic light and saw the driver waving a semi-automatic handgun around, the release said. After deputies activated emergency lights and sirens, the suspect vehicle stopped in the 6000 block of West Mill Road but took off before deputies could approach the car.
