The Saskatchewan government has authorized millions of dollars in grants for a cash-strapped investment fund that stoked heated debate in the legislature last year.
The Saskatchewan Immigrant Investor Fund (SIIF), which used federal loans to support affordable housing, is suing to recover about $10.4 million owing on a Prince Albert apartment project that went into receivership. But in the meantime, the provincially-owned fund has to keep up on outstanding payments to Ottawa. There is still about $3.05 million owing to the federal government.
