John Piper Goes Further Up and Further Into the D

35.99 As a pastor and author, John Piper has long been known for singing the song of God’s glory with uncommon passion. His newest book, the massive Providence written more than three decades after his signature volume Desiring God confirms that Piper has even more Scripture-soaked verses to belt out. At this stage of his ministry, it might be helpful to imagine Piper playing the role of C. S. Lewis’s character Digory Kirke from The Chronicles of Narnia. Piper, though, is Kirke at the age of his greatest influence, when he has grown from the boy Digory to the aged professor who welcomes the Pevensie children to stay at his estate to find in his wardrobe a portal to a new world.

I Won t Have What I Need : What Stealing Says About God and Us

Professor, Bethlehem College & Seminary Have you read a social media post and later found it was another’s used without permission or credit given? Or worse, have you ever listened to a sermon and later found out that it was stolen from online? I have, sadly, several times. How can one commend insights by infringement? How can one plagiarize to publicize righteousness? Sadly, even professing Christians steal and find ways to justify stealing, especially in less obvious forms. Breaking the Eighth Commandment Question 142 and its answer in the Westminster Catechism captures well the many and subtle ways we break the eighth commandment today:

Life is full of coincidence and purposes

Do you believe in coincidence? You know what I mean. You think of someone out of your past and strangely, you hear from them or chance to meet them unexpectedly. Just a coincidence, you say. Or, you have been working on a problem that has been elusive for days, but suddenly something completely unrelated makes it all clear. Just a coincidence.   I won’t say it has been often, but there have been times when I have had those experiences and chalked it up to “coincidence.” On the other hand, I often wonder, is there more to it? For example, I am sure that From a Faith Perspective column coordinator Sister Eileen White had no idea when she made our most recent assignments that when she scheduled me for April 11, it was my birthday. My first reaction was, “Isn t that coincidental?” Then I thought, “No, it is a trigger to remind me of my mortality.”

Roy Exum: Never, Ever, Ever Quit - Chattanoogan com

Roy Exum: Never, Ever, Ever Quit Wednesday, February 10, 2021 - by Roy Exum Roy Exum A “window of opportunity” suddenly opened for me last week and as I hurried to get a letter in that day’s mail, I was able to share one of the first poems I was “forced” to memorize as a child. Because my parents were so cruel and mean, I memorized several poems and isn’t it odd that I still carry several in my heart? I wish all parents were as mean and cruel as mine; when I was being brought up there were Bible verses, parts of the Westminster Catechism, Lincoln’s preamble of The Gettysburg Address, and other joys.
