The festival almost always includes Hollywood films restored to their original vibrancy.
In adopting a virtual format for this year’s festival, however, Wexner Center leaders knew that including studio releases would be difficult, if not impossible: Major studios would be reluctant to license their films to stream on the arts center’s website.
“I knew there was no way we were going to be able to get the licensing to show Disney or Warner Bros. or Universal (films),” said David Filipi, director of film/video at the Wexner Center.
“Cinema Revival,” then, would have to be revived in a slightly different form.
