Page 5 - What Steele News Today

There was a security issue about whether a presidential candidate was being blackmailed. in addition to this, simpson also testified that somebody in the fbi had essentially believed what steele was saying because of an inside source, a trump campaign source, who had been giving them similar information. we have since learned that source referred to an australian diplomat passed information about the former trump campaign adviser, george papadopoulos, and discussions he had with the russians, an...

Some of what steele had told them in the dossier. saying this, my understanding was that they believed chris might be credible because they had other intelligence that indicated the same thing and one of those pieces of intelligence was a human source from inside the trump organization. our jim sciutto is now saying thats george papadopoulos and when going out for drinks with someone. do you think that the fbi saw steele as a incredible source, undermines the presidents assertion that steele was...

Theyre now talking about that among other points that are being made here. that you had the call made to the fbi from christopher steele because he felt obligated to call. not a bunch of bs and garbage, as trump and his allies would have people believe. >> thats right. what people have to remember, who are thinking this is all partisan is steele approaches the fbi before donald trump is president, and he also assumes none of this is going to be public because its a counterintelligence investigat...

Steele told him that there was a person inside the trump organization, the trump campaign, who had been communicating with the fbi whistleblower of sorts, a source, about some of this same issues. and an according to steeles testimony, the fbi viewed what steele said as credible, in part, because it also was consistent with what this trump campaign source had been telling them separately. now, in addition to this, fusion gps co-founder glen symptom gims into detail to say he understands how this...

Information to the fbi as soon as he learned it and you cannot say the same thing about the trump campaign, and theres an effort to show the trump was doing opposition research by meeting with the russians, and what steele did was gather from russian sources that he gained there, and the difference is that christopher steele bypassed fusion gps entirely, and now the question is why didnt the trump do the same thing? >> i would love to be a fly on the wall between john mccain and lindsay graham a...

Backtracking and i agree there will be indictments. i think the real challenge will be when those indictments come down, is donald trump going to protect his son-in-law and others around him with a pardon or are we going to have to rely on the attorney general of new york, eric schneiderman, to pursue the truth in justice. >> okay, thank you both so much. appreciate it. still ahead, one of the former journalists to speak with christopher steele joins me next. what steele told him about the accur...

Stayed in trump tower. but also kremlin espionage, which is my thing. i spent four years in moscow and i kind of fell into the mincer, if you like. i had kgb spies following me around the streets of moscow and a series of break-ins where i was living with my wife and two small kids. we had video bugs in our bedroom. i was eventually kicked out of russia in 2011. but i think it gave me insight as how the kremlin sees the world. they see it as cold war 2.0. so its another cold war. america may hav...

Trump and russia. it was already a huge scandal. this was december, 2016. i heard that steele had expertise so i went to see him. actually if im honest, he was very tight lipped. he didnt say huge amounts. he gave us a few hints. we bounced some stuff off him and then we left. while i knew about the dossier, i havent seen it. when buzzfeed published, i thought that guy. >> did you bring that up? did you talk with him about the dossier when you met? >> the thing about chris is hes very kind of di...

New details about the controversial russia dossier and the former british spy behind it. in a new book, a journalist describes meeting ex-spy christopher steele just weeks before that dossier became public and that journalist says steele gave him clues about where to take his research into possible collusion. joining me now is luke harding, foreign correspondent for "the guardi guardian" and author of "collusi "collusion, secret meetings, dirty money and how rush oo helped donald trump win." con...

That stuff is dynamite now because it corroborates classified intelligence and classified intelligence also verifies what steele says. its going to be fascinating hearing from him. >> he is -- you know, what did mccain say? the shoes to drop. hes a big shoe if he ever drops. >> big shoe. >> malcolm and david, thank you both. >> thank you. we have a programming note here. tomorrow night on "the last word with lawrence odonnell" the author will be here to interview christopher steele and broke s...
