» Construction, maintenance projects to affect local travel

By Kathi O Shea April 12, 2021 7:00 am clipart.com BELLINGHAM, Wash.  A few upcoming traffic items for county drivers: The Whatcom Chief will suspend runs to Lummi Island mid-day from 10:10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday for terminal inspection and maintenance at both ends of the run. A lane closure is planned for this Wednesday on the north side of the James Street/ Orchard intersection as the I-5 underpass project in that area kicks into gear. Next week, WSDOT will begin replacement two culverts under Interstate 5 and State Route 11 in south Bellingham that the agency says have blocked salmon and other fish from traveling upstream for years.

Traffic delays possible as maintenance, construction work continues

By Kathi O Shea December 14, 2020 7:07 am clipart.com BELLINGHAM, Wash.  Travelers may encounter delays this week due to construction and maintenance projects. Monday, Northbound I-5 near Nulle Road will be reduced to one lane overnight and on Tuesday, Southbound I-5 near the Meridian Street onramp will be reduced to one lane from 9pm to 4am. An annual inspection of the Whatcom Chief may delay or cancel the 1pm round-trip from Lummi Island on Wednesday. Work on Kellogg Road will continue throughout the week with one lane of traffic open to drivers. Work on Meridian will continue from 7pm to 7am through the week with lane shifts and single-lane closures as needed.
