You can no longer have a smoke or vape on Wildwood Crest beaches. This summer, the Jersey Shore resort town is eliminating designated smoking areas. The ban officially begins on June 7. Wildwood Crest is also banning pot sales anywhere in town. Officials in Wildwood Crest want all vapers and smokers to butt out on the Jersey Shore resort s sandy beaches this summer. Jersey Shore town bans smoking at beaches Updated 9:14 PM; A Cape May County town has banned smoking on its beaches and is cracking down on recreational marijuana use. The Borough of Wildwood Crest’s Board of Commissioners passed an ordinance Wednesday that banned beachgoers from lighting up on all parts of the beach. The municipality previously had allowed smoking in designated areas, according to a release from the borough. The designated areas, created in 2019, were eliminated with the passage of the new ordinance and all the borough’s beaches will soon be smoke-free. The borough had previously taken advantage of a clause in the statewide beach smoking ban approved in 2018 which allows local governments to pass an ordinance designating areas totaling no more than 15% of their total beach acreage for smoking.
