UFR GLOSSARY is here. FORMATION NOTES: Maryland mostly stayed in 11 personnel even when they went to twins formations like the below. I called this defensive front from Michigan "Nk Over!" with the exclamation mark denoting extra wide splits between the DL. Also for those of you who weren't around when I was doing the FFFFs, "TaTa Time" is a Maryland-specific play where Taulia Tagovailoa abandons the pocket and runs around 15 to 40 yards behind the line of scrimmage with...

It's #HateWeek yet again, ahead of one of the biggest editions of The Game in memory. Two 11-0 teams going at it for the second straight year. Does it get any better than this in college football? I don't think so.    The Film: As in past seasons, I am charting Ohio State's offense against Penn State's defense because the Nittanys have the best defense OSU has played to date. However, I will also be incorporating plenty of film from other games. I previously used Ohio Stat...

11/18/2023 – Michigan 31, Maryland 24 – 11-0, 8-0 Big Ten Michigan got up 23-3; they'd paved Maryland on a couple touchdown drives, forced a fumble out of Taulia Tagovailoa for a touchdown, and blocked a punt. Hooray, another one of these games, can we please fast forward to next weekend. I no longer want football to be happening, because Roman Wilson has already exited this game and there is no reason to continue this exhibition before the main event. Then the other football game happe...

Michigan heads out on the road for the final time in the 2023 season on Saturday, heading to College Park to take on the Maryland Terrapins. The crowd will presumably be filled with Michigan fans as the Terps haven't given their side a ton to cheer about this season. The team is 6-4 and bowl eligible, which is nice, but hopes for a 9 or even 10 win season (with an upset or bowl win) have crumbled to pieces due to disappointing losses against Illinois and Northwestern. Does Maryland's ...

UFR GLOSSARY is here. FORMATION NOTES: PSU gets weird so some nomenclature reminders. This is Gun Wk Stack, which they used a lot. This is Pistol Diamond. And a reminder for some of my nomenclature, this is Gun Trips (H) Y-SB: Trips is the receiver alignment and I use parentheticals around the (H) because the slot receiver is covered/an ineligible receiver. A dash means motion, so Y-SB means the tight end motioned to a superback spot. "Empty 2x1" means 2 wide to the field, 1 wide to th...

11/11/2023 – Michigan 24, Penn State 15 – 10-0, 7-0 Big Ten Everyone I have talked to in the last two weeks has been furious. I have also been furious, of course, but other people have been so furious that I—me, myself—have been attempting to calm people down. I have asserted that the Big Ten would not wantonly screw Michigan out of a football game with refereeing; that maybe the guy who sounds like he's running a Taliban cell should take a step back; that leaving the Big Ten is an ...

After a long week of legal drama, including the hours leading up to the game, Michigan did indeed play football on Saturday afternoon in State College, Pennsylvania. Jim Harbaugh was unable to make it to the stadium and take his place on the sideline due to a delayed judicial decision (litigation on the TRO will continue this week), but his Michigan football team took the field under the direction of interim head coach Sherrone Moore. They got locked in a nasty battle with the Nittany Lions that...
