The Willmar Public Schools District submitted a pair of questions as part of a referendum on the Nov. 7 ballot. The first would increase the school's levy; the other would fund a new gymnasium.
With three former teachers on the School Board, Superintendent Jeff Holm took his chance at Monday's meeting to urge board members to consider subbing for the district. Substitute teachers are needed at all levels, and the district also has numerous openings in permanent positions.
Willmar Middle School needs a new, larger gym, but plans to build one are on hold for now. Willmar Public Schools and Southwest West Central Service Cooperative had planned to build an addition to the school together, but the plans have been waylaid several times since spring 2020.
Willmar school officials say they don't have any pride flags in elementary schools, but a concerned parent said at Monday's Willmar School Board meeting that he believes he has seen them.
The staff of Willmar Public Schools gathered Thursday morning for the annual kickoff to the school year. Superintendent Jeff Holm talked to them about staying healthy, and also about his plans to retire in two years. Staff also met new Assistant Superintendent Bill Adams.
