Amazon to hire 1,500 workers for 90 acre Woodburn warehouse
Amazon s planned Woodburn fulfillment center will serve retail customers throughout the region.
On Wednesday, June 30, Amazon officially announced its plans to open a new fulfillment center at Woodland Avenue and Butteville Road NE in Woodburn.
The online retail giant purchased 130 acres in the Woodburn enterprise zone last week. Amazon officials said they envision opening the new center in 2023, and it will hire more than 1,500 full-time employees who will help pick, pack and ship orders to customers in the general region. The average starting wage is expected to be about $17 per hour with benefits.

Cases, hospitalizations fall while workplace outbreaks increase
COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations declined last week, for the second week in a row, the Oregon Health Authority’s weekly COVID-19 report shows.
OHA reported 4,896 new cases of COVID-19 between May 3 and May 9. That’s a 12% decrease from the previous week.
New COVID-19 related hospitalizations also fell, from 272 to 245.
COVID-19 related deaths, however, nearly doubled, from 16 to 31.
There were 111,121 COVID-19 tests performed during the week. Of those, 6.1% were positive, down from 6.8% the previous week.

Oregon reports 611 COVID-19 vaccine breakthrough cases
The Oregon Health Authority has identified 611 COVID-19 vaccine breakthrough cases through May 3, including eight deaths.
Vaccine breakthrough cases are defined as instances in which an individual receives a positive COVID-19 test result at least 14 days after completing a COVID-19 vaccine series.

Of the 611 reported breakthrough cases, 89 cases, or 14%, were in people who live in long-term care facilities or other congregate care settings.

COVID-19 cases increase week over week
COVID-19 daily cases, hospitalizations and deaths all increased in Oregon last week, the state’s weekly report shows.
The Oregon Health Authority reported 4,786 new daily cases during the week of Jan. 25-31, a 16% increase from the previous week.
Hospitalizations increased to an average of 36 per day. That’s a 14% increase from the previous week.
Deaths increased slightly, from 74 to 76.
There were 119,390 COVID-19 tests administered last week, slightly more than the previous week. The percentage of positive tests increased to 5.4%.

The largest active outbreak remains at the Snake River Correctional Institution in Ontario. The outbreak was first identified on June 24 and the case count has continued to rise since then. There have been 574 coronavirus cases linked to the outbreak, with the most recent case reported on Dec. 29.
