Maricopa Unified School District administrators are taking new steps to combat chronic student absenteeism, which ballooned during the pandemic and is slow to recover in the aftermath.

A final agreement between the Perham-Dent Public School District and Perham Education Association was approved by the school board at its meeting on Nov. 8.

Once the 2023-24 school year begins, students at the middle school will no longer be permitted to use their cellphone during structured learning times.

A fresh school year brings new experiences, new classes and new faces. And not just in the classroom — four Maricopa campuses welcomed new deans this month. 

The Perham-Dent Public School District approved the 2023-24 preliminary budget at the school board meeting on Wednesday, June 21.

Classroom sizes at the elementary school will likely increase to pre-COVID-19 numbers as a grade section is removed.

In other Perham-Dent School Board news, the district had an increase of 16 students from February into March.

Hannah Levenhagen, the student success coordinator for the district, presented the World's Best Workforce report at the Wednesday, Jan. 18 school board meeting.

The audit was completed by Eide Bailly to determine whether financial statements were developed according to the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
