Quincy home destroyed by windswept multi-alarm fire

A family of five in Quincy lost its home to windswept fire Saturday.Quincy Fire Chief Joe Jackson says the two-alarm fire started at about 5:30 a.m. inside the Springfield Street home.According to Jackson, the homeowner saw an orange glow on his doorbell camera and was able to get his family to safety. No injuries were reported.Strong winds in the area pushed the heavy smoke around and caused embers to fly in all directions. They were landing all over the place. When I came outside, there were live embers dropping from the sky, said neighbor John Wetherby. That s always a concern when you get a fully-involved house like this with winds blowing, Jackson said. So we keep an eye on the neighbors houses and we make them aware of what s going on, that they might have to evacuate at any moment.
