The Winthrop School Board reached agreement Wednesday on the spending plan for the town's schools and are sending the budget to the Town Council for consideration, but School Board Member Ivy Corliss remains unsatisfied with the information she has received about the schools' transportation department.
The school buses, which were awarded from the federal Clean School Bus program but soon broke down, have been off the road since early this year. Though the buses have now passed inspection, School Board members are uncertain about whether to put them back in service.
After being sent away for repair earlier this year, Winthrop's four electric school buses have failed inspections after they were returned recently, prompting Maine State Police inspectors to deem them unsafe to drive in their current condition.
