One of the groups suing Brown County over its 3-year-old sales tax remains optimistic a court will find the tax illegal, despite lower-court rulings that the county can continue to collect the money from local shoppers. The conservative Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty, the Brown County Taxpayers Association and Ashwaubenon resident Frank Bennett have appealed a Brown County Circuit Court judge s ruling that the tax is legal. The Wisconsin Court of Appeals, which was next in line to hear the case, has asked the state Supreme Court to step in, citing complicated legal issues.
