Many wineries lost their crop this year because of a late frost in the western part of Wisconsin. The Wisconsin Ledge was fortunate that it has protections from the lake and bay, and the elevations and weather patterns save wineries from late frosts and early freezes. In 2020, the Trout Springs Winery was given congressional status as the Birthplace of the Wisconsin Ledge AVA. The Wisconsin Ledge AVA is quite large (just under 2.5 million acres) and is the 12th largest in the US.
They were one of the first estate wineries in Wisconsin. That means the grapes are grown, vinted, and the product bottled there. The owners of Trout Springs Winery in Greenleaf helped to establish the Wisconsin Ledge, making our area a destination for wine lovers today. When you finish your wine shopping and tasting, be sure to take a peek at the trout pond. The winery gets its name from the hatchery on site where they produce trout and salmon for area restaurants.
(WFRV)- Wisconsin's ledge is a thriving region, home to both businesses and the people and animals who live here. They all have to work together to preserve this geological gem for generations to come. Today our Retired Rambler and special guest from the NEW Zoo shared details about a Three-toed box
