CAMC in Charleston, West Virginia, is among the first hospitals in the nation to take part in a breastfeeding initiative administered by the the Boston Medical Center s Center for Health, Equity, Education, and Research. The program is designed to increase the number of newborns who are breastfed. Doctors at the CDC, the World Health Organization and other experts say breastfeeding improves the health of both babies and their mothers. Dr. Elizabeth Copenhaver, a pediatric newborn hospitalist with CAMC Women and Children s Hospital, and her colleagues are administering the program locally.
