RESIDENTS are asked to remember those that lost their lives in the workplace today on International Workers’ Memorial Day. Held annually on April 28, International Workers Memorial Day is a time to remember workers killed, disabled, injured, or made unwell by their work and promote campaigns in the fight for health and safety improvements to prevent further tragedies from happening. In St Helens, a small memorial event - in line with coronavirus restrictions - was held at the Workers’ Memorial statue in Vera Page Park where dignitaries, including the Mayor of St Helens, laid wreaths. Unveiled in 2019, the statue is made from old tools and depicts an industrial worker holding aloft a child.
Quad patrols at the Dream Pic: St Helens Police POLICE say they have increased high-visibility patrols in response to concerns over illegal off-road bike use. The Star reported yesterday that quad bike patrols were put in place in Thatto Heath following community concerns. St Helens Police have said on Facebook on Sunday evening that they stepped up their presence in various locations across the borough in response to the issue. This includes the Dream site at Sutton Manor and the ex-Parkside Colliery in Newton-le-Willows. A statement by police said: Local officers have been providing high visibility today (Sunday) on quad bikes, in a number of locations that you report to us as concerns or where there is clear illegal off road bike use.
