WOODFORD, Wis. â At the same time a family is mourning the loss of a 7-year-old girl who drowned over the weekend, theyâre working to prevent something like that from happening again.
âLeah was very special,â said her aunt, Trisha Foster. âA one-of-a-kind girl.â
What happens to one person ripples outward to many.
âThere were over, I think, 150 of them out here that night until we found here at 2 a.m.,â Foster said, sending her thanks to all the search crews and volunteers.
She said Leah and friends werenât supposed to be playing at the boat launch that day, and that the 7-year-old got taken by the current when she and another child went swimming in the river.

TOWN OF WIOTA, Wis. A GoFundMe has been created for the family of a 7-year-old girl who drowned in the Pecatonica River on Saturday night.
Lafayette County officials said the girl and two other children had gone into the river near the County M boat landing west of Woodford. The river’s current swept the girl under the water, and officials said they found her body early Sunday morning.
The girl’s family has identified her as Leah Foster. Leah was the youngest of three children and attended Blackhawk School District.
Leah’s aunt Trish Foster told News 3 Now she loved the outdoors and spending time with friends and family.
