Parents of children who are due to celebrate the sacraments of First Holy Communion and Confirmation next year in two Wicklow parishes have been left without the support of the church in providing preparatory meetings, following a decision by the parish priest to dispense with the Pastoral Area Sacramental Preparation Programme.
A primary school in Bray has been granted the highest Science Foundation Ireland Curious Minds Award, as a total of 14 Wicklow schools featured in its latest round of awards.
“Children are extremely passionate about the environment. They’re alarmed by the stories that they read and hear about global warming and want change,” said Sean McMahon, a former president of the Irish National School Teachers’ Organisation (INTO), who has been leading Self Help Africa’s ‘One Million Trees’ campaign in our schools to raise awareness on climate change.
