With Easter fast approaching, Australian consumer experts have put popular hot cross buns to the test to find which tastes best.
As supermarkets and bakeries sell their own versions of the spiced sweet rolls, ranging from traditional and chocolate to apple and cinnamon, shoppers can be so spoilt for choice.
But to help you make the right choice, a panel of food experts from CHOICE have offered their verdict following a blind tasting after sampling varieties from Coles, Woolworths, Aldi and Bakers Delight.
The buns were rated on flavour, appearance, aroma and texture.
Of the 21 hot cross buns tested, Coles chocolate-flavoured variety ($3.50 for a pack of six) came out on top after scoring a credible 84 per cent, beating rivals on flavour and value, which costs just 58 cents per roll.
