Of damage in homes along the river. At least people had enough flooding to actually boat through their home in guerneville. Today the cleanup and Damage Assessment will begin. At its peak yesterday the river hit 37. 8 feet and thats 6 feet above flood stage. As of 2 a. M. , it had dropped about a half foot. But it is still enough to overwhelm some homes and businesses. The floodwaters went right up the highway 116 yesterday which is the main drag through this area. But it never actually flooded that road. Unspeakable tragedy here and the woman who survived, presumably the mother of the six children who died, a career congressional aide to the baltimore congressman. Six of her kids were killed, three other children and the mother survived in this incident. Hah a terrible tragedy here. Rescuers this morning have discovered at least one of the bodies of the six missing kids. Five others presumed dead in the rubble behind me. Piles of smoldering debris. The rescuers say, there is no hope of finding any of these children alive at this hour. Theyre describing the grim work as a recovery effort. Theyll be going through the remains of the building by hand, one shovel at a time today in an attempt to account for all of the dead.
