General Motors and Stellantis announced fresh layoffs Wednesday that they blamed on damage from the United Auto Workers strike.

Car manufacturing workers walked off the job Friday morning at the Big Three automakers — Ford, General Motors and Stellantis — after a United Auto Workers

UAW President Shawn Fain announced Monday night that more plants will go on strike if "serious progress" isn't made by noon on Friday, Sept. 22.

The national UAW have been on strike since 11 pm Central time Thursday Sept. 15.  

Polls suggest broad public support for the union, especially in comparison with CEOs from the three companies, who each make eight-figure salaries.

Auto workers at General Motors, Ford, and Stellantis Jeep threaten to strike over better benefits.

It's the first time the UAW will strike against the "Big 3" at once.

Under the UAW strategy, workers who go on strike would live on US$500 per week in strike pay from the union, while others would stay on the job at full pay.

It was the first time in the union's 88-year history that it walked out on all three companies simultaneously as four-year contracts expired at 11:59 p.m. Thursday.

For the first time, the United Auto Workers union has gone on strike against all three Detroit car companies at the same time.
