While ILWU bureaucrats are making every possible effort to prevent job actions, this is being challenged by the global resurgence of the class struggle.

The International Longshore and Warehouse Union has kept workers on the job without a deal, in maneuvers coordinated with the Pacific Maritime Association and the Biden Administration.

The British-based multinational is slashing thousands of jobs at its facilities across five continents and attacking employees' wages and working conditions to further boost its profits.

Late last week, MNA President Mary Turner signaled that the union may seek to confine a walkout to just one day.

The deaths occurred as the company has posted “better than expected” revenues due to its heavy exploitation of the work force.

“We were declared essential workers during the pandemic, but now they haven't needed us for five months,” one worker said.

On Monday, 15,000 nurses will be voting to authorize strike action at hospitals and health systems in the Twin Cities and Duluth, Minnesota.

The fact that the ILWU is not releasing details of the agreement is not a negotiating ploy, a feature of a conspiracy between the pro-corporate union bureaucracy and the Pacific Maritime Association, brokered by the Biden administration.

But the support for the truckers strike has not only revealed anger and discontent with the ILWU, it also threatens to upend the Biden administration’s attempts to bureaucratically strangle the class struggle on the docks.
