The Arkansas Department of Workforce Services began accepting applications on Monday for people living in Craighead, Jackson, Mississippi, Poinsett, and Woodruff Counties who lost their job as a result of severe storms that came through the region on December 10 and 11.

People unemployed as a result of the storms and tornadoes that swept through northeast Arkansas earlier this month may be eligible for unemployment assistance, according to state Division of Workforce Services Director Charisse Childers.

Lower wage earners in half the country will have a little extra cause to celebrate the advent of 2022 as widespread increases to minimum wage rates are poised to take effect next year.
