Enduring allure of literature

I spent most of my adult life in Canada, working as a banker. As I had a 9 to 5 job and casual after-work social gatherings were not customary in Canada, I had plenty of time at home, and my favorite pastime was reading. However, the amount of time I was able to set aside for reading on a weekday was less than I desired. Now that I am retired, I can bury myself in books.

you saw it with the trip he made the other day. his team is sitting down and thinking about what can we do while we are in the area? what can we do while we are in the courtroom, his legal team is trying to stick as much paper against the wall to gum up the works even if it buys up the freedom. they want that hour. they think it will benefit them in the eyes of their supporters they will try anything. it will be a look that trump gives to a person and a comment he makes. the way he described leaving the courtroom. they are going to look for every single opportunity to politicalize this and create spectacle. going back to the jury again. we are talking so much about how this is unprecedented to have a former president on criminal trial, but i have to say those 12 people are in an unprecedented position, never in the history of this country have we had people sit in the jury box in this type of situation and also in an

the pay gap outrage over her salary. the default argument that people have said it is simply about economics. the women's sports don't pull in as much revenue as the men's sport. i reject that and make the case for it, but tell us why you think that as well? >> well first of all i do think women's sports pull in less revenue. >> it is actually correct. >> that exists, right? but that doesn't mean these women are underpaid and undervalued relative to that. the big strawman a lot of people bring up because they don't pull the same revenue, they don't deserve the same salary, and wnba players are fighting and arguing for their fair share. so the wnba brings in around $200 million in revenue. the nba brings in $10 billion. the way salaries are negotiated, they are set in the bargaining agreement between the union and the league. that's how this works in every sport. now as a share of revenue the nba players get about 51% of

prevents up to me. the court could have done that this is one of those times i feel at the judge could have done more per there's no reason to do this in my view. it really works against due process and a fair trial. you want the parties to be prepared. here you got the district attorney sam going to unilaterally withhold because i think there's a violation here. works with jurors will get to we think witnesses who we don't know starting tomorrow potentially opening arguments. check with the jury seated includes multiple lawyers politico said trumps legal team might see a silver lining and haven'have employers on the jury are not emotional thinkers this whole trial consultant said profession requires them to do analysis and emotional thinkers can more easily swayed by the side that goes first, the side that shows a good story to the +-plus-minus-sign? works to plus for knesset lawyers on the jury and here's why. prosecutors notoriously do not

conversation on her new book and the resilience of america, even in turbulent times. >> you have typically written precedential biographies. this is a biography to some extent of your husband, and it is also a love story. what was the process like of writing this book as compared to all of your other incredible works? >> i was so used to writing about presidents who had archives. i would want to talk to them. i knew them because it took me so long to write the books. longer to write the book about world war ii than the war to be fought. longer to write about the civil war longer than twice the civil war. i would always ask them questions. they never answered me. this time, i had this guy, my guy across the hall from me in the same study. i was able to talk to him. he could answer my questions. he had an archive that was -- a mini-archive of what presidents have, memos, diaries, letters. he saved everything in 300 boxes and finally decided when he turned 80 to open them.
