Worldcoin plans to expand globally and offer its iris-scanning and identity-verification technology to other organisations, according to a senior manager. The company, launched last week, requiring users to give their iris scans in exchange for a digital ID and free cryptocurrency.

Founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and theoretical physics student Alex Bania, the firm has invented a device known as an orb through which users can scan their eyes. The image is then encrypted and uploaded – after which they get free crypto. Privacy experts are not fans of the project
