case, from what has come out about loughner and his thoughts, i think that you would have a hard time as a prosecutor proving that this was intended to change some kind of government policy or to intimidate the civilian population, as required by the statute. jon: so does that suggest that those who are taking to the media and saying, you know, this is attributable to some kind of political bent of his and some kind of political motivation and ideology, that that charge simply doesn t fly? look, we don t know everything about this guy, and they may discover some kind of cache of written materials, he may have a manifesto the way kaczynski had but right now it doesn t look like this is anything except for a nut job, who really was mentally deranged and his writings have a mish mash of bizarre theor yes
