Charita Goshay: Farewell John's Bar and Walther's Cafe

If you were to look at the June 27, 1921, edition of the Canton Repository, you would see a front-page jammed with too many stories to read in one sitting, and inside, pages filled with ads for hundreds of businesses that no longer exist. It is the nature of economics and commerce that businesses thrive or die depending on people's needs and as demand and culture change. Demand for certain goods and services frequently fall victim to obsolescence. When's the last time you bought a girdle, or a buggy whip, or had a radio repaired? We're now in an age in which physical retailers are fighting to survive the rising challenge posed by online shopping.

LA Fitness planning board approval extended - centraljersey.com

LA Fitness planning board approval extended LA Fitness planning board approval extended The LA Fitness Center, planned for the site of the former Huffman Koos furniture store at the Lawrence Shopping Center, will be opening at the shopping center – but just not yet. The Lawrence Township Planning Board approved a four-month extension to Oct. 15 for final site plan approval for the fitness center, which was granted to Lawrence Shopping Center Associates LLC in September 2018. The resolution, which was approved by the Lawrence Township Planning Board at its June 21 meeting, states that “the applicant has been unable to begin construction on the LA Fitness Center as a result of delays due to the declared state and local emergency arising from the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Construction at Lidl continues; grand opening expected for the summer

Construction at Lidl continues; grand opening expected for the summer Construction at Lidl continues; grand opening expected for the summer × The Lidl grocery store at the Lawrence Shopping Center is expected to open this summer, and a grand opening date – which has not yet been set – will be announced as the project nears completion. That’s the word from Lidl spokesman Chandler Ebeier. Work on the Lidl grocery store has begun to pick up in the last few months. The blue and yellow “Lidl” corporate sign has been installed above the main entrance, which is a glass-enclosed lobby. Renovation work has occurred in spurts since demolition on the vacant space began in August 2020. The former ACME grocery store space had been empty since 2018, when the store’s lease expired at the shopping center at 2495 Brunswick Pike.

Lidl to join Lawrence Shopping Center businesses

Lidl to join Lawrence Shopping Center businesses Lidl to join Lawrence Shopping Center businesses The transformation of the former ACME grocery store into a Lidl grocery store at the Lawrence Shopping Center is well underway, with an anticipated opening date in mid- to late summer, according to Lawrence Township officials. The renovation has been taking place in spurts since demolition work on the vacant space began in August 2020. Behind a chain link fence that bars entry to the work site, signs that promote Lidl’s impending opening have been attached to the plywood covering the storefront. The former ACME grocery store space has been empty since 2018, when the store’s lease expired. ACME Markets decided not to renew the lease at the Lawrence Shopping Center at 2495 Brunswick Pike because the store had not met the company’s goals.
