Jimmy Kang has worked in the entertainment business for nearly two decades. Originally from Seoul, South Korea, Kang views Worcester as a rich hotbed of underground hip-hop talent. Kang was thrilled to strike a recent distribution deal with Sony Orchard, a music distribution platform that he believes will elevate his artists’ reach and pave the way for their mainstream success. The Orchard became a subsidiary of Sony Music Entertainment in 2015. Putting New England talent in the spotlight is what Jimmy Kang is all about.
And with the re-launching of his Worcester based record label, Str8up Ent., and a new distribution deal with The Orchard, he’ll be putting that talent in a larger, brighter spotlight.
The coronavirus pandemic has allowed Kang, who serves as vice president of Wu-Tang Management and is involved with a slew of other business ventures, the ability to step back and reassess things. He also set time aside to create and donate 50 masks to health care professionals at UMass Memorial Medical Center.
